Toch is het niet de hoofdstad, niet van de regio Galicia, maar zelfs ook niet van de provincie Pontevedra waar de stad in gelegen is. De provinciehoofdstad is namelijk de gelijknamige stad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/bestemmingen\/pontevedra\/\">Pontevedra<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d1512681.5261123339!2d-9.846033385104516!3d42.22606784560913!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0xd2f621461b2c193%3A0x7b441dad174bd49f!2sVigo%2C%20Pontevedra%2C%20Spanje!5e0!3m2!1snl!2snl!4v1594553521873!5m2!1snl!2snl\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arbeidersstad en grootse vissershaven van Europa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vigo is een echte arbeidersstad. Van oudsher de haven, later de auto-industrie. Visvangst was altijd al belangrijk, maar met de ontwikkeling van vriesschepen waar vis direct ingevroren werd en daardoor langer houdbaar nam de visserij in Vigo enorm toe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Een leuk feitje: Vigo is de grootste vissershaven van Europa. Het is de grootste loshaven voor kolossale vriesschepen die lange tijd op de oceaan gevaren hebben. Het is zeker niet alleen vis die voor de kust van Galicie gevangen wordt dat hier binnenkomt. Dagelijks komen in Vigo scheepsladingen vis binnen van over de hele wereld; zwaardvis uit Chili, heek uit Mauritani\u00eb, calamares van de Falkland-eilanden en ga zo maar door. In Vigo wordt vele diepgevroren vis overgeslagen in containers om vervolgens weer over de hele wereld verspreid te worden. <br>Vigo zit tevens de grootste visproducent van Spanje en zelfs de wereld, dat is Pescanova. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De auto-industrie zorgde vanaf de jaren zeventig voor een flinke groei in de vissersstad Vigo. De productie van Citroen vond hier plaats. Oorspronkelijk vanuit kostenbesparing vanwege de lage lonen in het arme Galici\u00eb. Met de komst van de auto-industrie groeide de bevolking, en daarmee de stad, snel vanaf 1970 tot eind 20e eeuw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wat te doen in Vigo?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vigo is misschien niet de stad waar je een stedentrip van 5 dagen zult boeken. De stad is prima te bezoeken in \u00e9\u00e9n dag. Heb je meer tijd, dan adviseer ik om de omgeving van Vigo te bezoeken. Je hoeft niet ver te rijden om mooie natuur te aanschouwen, zowel aan de kust als in de bergen en bossen landinwaarts. Vanuit Vigo ben je ook zo in Portugal. Vigo is de zuidelijkst gelegen grote stad van Galici\u00eb.<br><br>In de stad kun je een prima wandeling maken. Houd wel rekening met klimmen en dalen. Loop langs de kust en de grote havens. Gefluit van meeuwen is overal te horen in de stad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In een vissersstad vind je natuurlijk ook verse vis. De vismarkt O Berb\u00e9s is een aanrader. Heerlijk verse vis. Extra leuk, de vis wordt hier ook nog traditioneel via een veiling verkocht. Cesteiros is een leuke winkelstraat voor toeristen. Je vindt hier veel traditionele handwerkzaakjes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voetballiefhebbers kunnen een bezoek brengen aan Bala\u00eddos, de thuishaven van voetbalclub Celta de Vigo. De meeste Gallego\u2019s zijn of voor Celta of voor haar aartsvijand Deportivo uit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/bestemmingen\/a-coruna\/\">A Coru\u00f1a<\/a>.&nbsp;<br>Enkele jaren geleden heeft de club wegens een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/2017\/09\/27\/lege-stoeltjes-stadion-celta-de-vigo\/\">boete voor teveel lege stoeltjes<\/a> de entreeprijzen flink verlaagd.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reizen naar Vigo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ga je vanuit Nederland rechtstreeks naar Vigo dan is vliegen naar Porto of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/bestemmingen\/santiago-de-compostela\/reizen-naar-santiago-compostela\/\">Santiago de Compostela<\/a> het makkelijkst. Vanuit beide steden ben je binnen 2 uur in de havenstad.Ben je al in Galici\u00eb? Dan is vervoer per auto of trein mogelijk. Vanuit andere plaatsen in Spanje is een binnenlandse vlucht ook te overwegen.
