Hoewel de jaren dat de club landskampioen werd (met Nederlander Roy Makaay) alweer enkele jaren achter ons lagen draait de club nog bovenin mee in Spanje en speelt zelfs Champions League. Tegenwoordig vergaat het Depor minder en zijn ze zelfs gedegradeerd naar het tweede niveau.\u00a0 <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het is 2004 en Deportivo speelt in de Champions League. In de poulefase moeten ze onder meer tegen het Engelse Liverpool. Samen met enkele vrienden leek me dit een uitgelezen mogelijkheid om eens een Spaanse voetbalwedstrijd bij te wonen. Een Champions League wedstrijd tegen Liverpool, een fantastisch affiche!\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ik herinner me het nog goed, aan het einde van de middag reizen we vanuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/bestemmingen\/santiago-de-compostela\/\">Santiago de Compostela<\/a> af naar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galiciatips.com\/nl\/bestemmingen\/a-coruna\/\">A Coru\u00f1a<\/a>. Champions League wedstrijden begonnen altijd om 20.45 uur, dus we waren ruim op tijd in de stad. Genoeg tijd om bocadillos in te slaan om tijdens de rust als avondmaaltijd te nuttigen en nog een wandeling door de stad te maken.\u00a0 Ruim op tijd gaan we naar het stadion, het zal rond 20 uur geweest zijn. Het stadion heet Riazor, genoemd naar het gelijknamige strand, het bekendste en drukste strand van de stad, waaraan het stadion gelegen is. We waren veel te vroeg voor Spaanse begrippen, zo leerde ik later, maar toch is het al aardig druk rondom het stadion.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terwijl wij de juiste ingang zoeken zien we vele Spaanse supporters rondom het stadion. Ze drinken een biertje en voeren, zoals altijd, luidruchtige discussies, over de opstelling zo beeld ik me in.\u00a0 Eenmaal de juiste ingang gevonden lopen wij gewapend met onze tickets naar binnen. Althans, dat proberen we. Terwijl mijn vrienden voortstappen wordt ik tegengehouden door een Guardia Civil: \u201cWaar ga je naartoe, het uitvak is hier niet\u201d.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Met mijn blonde haren en, ongetwijfeld, roodverbrande gezicht wordt ik aangezien voor Engelsman en supporter van Liverpool. \u00a0Ik zie mijn onvergetelijke avondje Champions League al in rook opgaan en mijn hart bonst in mijn keel bij de strenge blik van de gewapende agent. Met handen, voeten en het gebrekkige Spaans dat ik op dat moment spreek probeer ik meneer agent uit te leggen dat ik toch echt kom om Depor aan te moedigen. Zelfs mijn Nederlandse paspoort haal ik tevoorschijn als bewijs van onschuld. Gelukkig blijkt het te overtuigen, want uiteindelijk krijg ik een ferme schouderklop en mag doorlopen. &#8220;Forza Depor&#8221;, roept de Guardia Civil me nog na.\u00a0 Het valt niet mee om als Nederlander in Galici\u00eb te integreren! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>ps. De wedstrijd?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De wedstrijd kan ik me nog steeds goed herinneren. Zo bijzonder als de setting voor mij was, een Champions League wedstrijd in Galici\u00eb, zo kleurloos was de wedstrijd. Met zekerheid de saaiste wedstrijd die ik ooit in een stadion gezien heb.
