Podcast: listen to the history of the Camino de Santiago

I found an interesting podcaste episode about the Camino de Santiago. Listening to this podcast is a nice way to learn more about the history of the camino while in the car or having your eyes shut and just be listening.

You can listen the podcast here:

What is the podcast about?

The podcast is made by Rick Stevens. Rick’s an American expert on European travel. Since 1976 he’s been travelling to the old continent. He shares information about his travels in books, on his website and thus in a podcast series.

In the podcast episode about the Camino de Santiago Rick chats with guide Jeremy Dack. They explain how modern travelers can make the journey through northwestern Spain that has inspired centuries of pilgrims.  Together they discuss the history of the pilgrimage. How did it start, the popularity in medieval times. They also discuss the Camino of today, is it only for Christians and how is it to walk the camino. Listen to the episode to hear the answers.

Second episode about the Camino

There is also a second episode in Rick Stevens podcast series about the Camino. I personally found that less interesting. It’s an interview with German comic Hape Kerkeling, author of “I’m Off Then: Losing and Finding Myself on the Camino de Santiago”. He describes what he learned on a month-long solo trek on Spain’s pilgrimage trail. You can listen to it here:
